Kogito san and I have rented Chibasan's Second House as studio.
One day in March, 2004…
Kogito : Iikawa kun! I heard they had decided to break down this house in July...
Me : What!?
Kogito : So that we have to move out by the end of June...
Me : Boo! It's kind of soon, no?
That night,
I spoke with my friend Nishitake kun from the neighborhood to do some thing fun there before we make our ways out.
Me : What do you think we should do?
Nishitake : I have no idea...
So what happens is
Invisible Garden Project is Artist Initiative Project; a contemporary art show "ie skirt",
from the 29th of May until the 20th of June in Okazaki, Kyoto.
The exhibition is the second exhibition project of ' Invisible Garden', following the first show
"Invisible Garden" held in Neyagawa, Osaka 2003. Invisible Garden Project aims to present a vision
of art in void of city in time and space by using vacant buildings as its venues. The show is held on
the occasion of the dismantling of Chiba san's house which retains elements of Japanese
traditional houses such as the dirt floor and the well. The owner of the house, Mr. Chiba is a
traditional Japanese fan craftsman. The house was rented out for Takehiro Iikawa and Kogito
Yoshizumi, who are also the exhibiting artists, for sometime, to use as their studio. The show was
entitled "ie skirt" thinking that the house was originally Mr. Chiba's residency and now is part
of the two artists' lives. "ie"- house and "skirt" both function to protect the private realm. However,
compared to a house that has sturdy walls, a skirt, easily flipped by the wind, seems to evoke
more of the image of the "house" which holds the show in the sense that a private space becomes
a public space through the act of the exhibition. The four artists all have bearings on this private
space. Each will depict the relationships between the space and their work in their own way.
It would be grateful if you interested in this exhibition.
